Se la raconter

...means "acting up" in french. i like this expression. anyway, to "me la raconter" a lil' here, go check the following – way too long – interview with PYRO on our favorite monster-blog, maintained by julie machin! She's a friend of the carnet family (which might seem smaller than it really is) who's organising events, writing articles and blogs, or sometimes just hustling to stay alive. LOVE!

alta bikes

alta bikes is a norwegian brand doing this bike here only: a single speeded aluminium track frame coming in 8 different color ways. it is a collaboration between bleed, frost produkt (industrial design) and norway says.
seems as the norwegian museum bought a piece and keeping it as a design classic. (wow)
well, the thing i like most about it is the campaign (on top)!

hercules in new york

SE SAME OLD SINGS, SE SAME OLD FACES...
due to a friend of mine who's totally into arnold schwarzenegger, i got to know the trailer and the best scenes of arnie's first movie «hercules in new york» (1970). arnold's (credited as arnold strong) austrian-english was dubbed in the beginning, but later-on replaced by the original voice.
the amazing plot, full of deep poetry and philosophically evidential questions, tells the story of half god hercules, who's fed up of his boring life above the clouds. after a heart-touching talk, zeus finally allows him to drop on earth and see the big city life, and the adventure begins!

papergirl #4

Papergirl #3 from Papergirl on Vimeo.

this nice poster teasered me to the papergirl project. taking place in berlin the project consists of a two week exhibition, a bike workshop and a party. the artworks sent-in by artists around the world are printed in a newspaper and distributed by bike in the streets for free.

hermaphrodite

volcano type released a grotesque-bastard-type called hermaphrodite, designed by stefan claudius (who is a cofounder of cape arcona foundry)
Hermaphrodite emerged in the Bastard Project as the idea to apply the process of "Antiqua" to a "Grotesk". Concretely, this means drawing by hand a "Grotesk" font and digitalising it. Undesired corners where simply removed.

cold chillin' shirts

stonesthrow, in collaboration with biz markie and george dubois, released a series of cold chillin' tees, featuring some of biz' record covers.
mr. dubois is a highly respected photographer who's responsible for lots of record covers from back in the 80ies and 90ies. (he did the ramones, the juice crew, big daddy kane etc.)
I WANT THE JUICE CREW SHIRRRRT!

baubike

bike or sculpture?
«

The BauBike is inspired by Bauhaus design.
It is constructed around the geometric shape of the square and the equilateral triangle. The design is stripped down to clean lines and raw material.

»
that's what they say on Michael Ubbesen Jakobsen's baubike-page. i really thought it is some kind of joke in form of a bike, but you can buy yourself bike plus accessories. funny, but...i don't know. wouldn't be my kind of bike anyway.

afrofuturism

rammellzee

sun ra, space is the place

wow! did a little research about this movement that must have started in the 70ies or so. didn't even find out. if you wanna know more about it, check afrofuturism.net. all i know is that it is about afro-americans and science fiction, expressed in music, art, film and literature and artists like sun ra, rammellzee or killah priest took part of it. (and madlib quoted/sampled sun ra on shadows of tomorrow)

beautiful covers: space

nice jacket!
disco funky music from 1978, vogue records.i wouldn't have thought it according to their boots, hairstyles and mr.moustache, but the sound is quite nice.
i'm not really into the cover design, but the type-backcover is cool!
